The
Artist and the Simplicity of Just Being
by d.hayott
There
is a universal misconception regarding the role of a singer. Somehow we
have drifted into the abyss of complacency. Plastic images as well as
synthetic sound. Sort of a disconnect between what is creative versus that
which is simply created. Of course this is nothing new. It’s conceded that
art lives in cyclic terms.
In the music industry
we have dumbed-down to a point where substance pales to volumes and
volumes of candy sound. Images of women of color changing their facial
features and bleaching their hair to claim their spots on the assembly
line. There’s also an accepted view that somehow there’s a shelf life for
women above some voting age having anything of importance to contribute to
a song.
Tomaca is here to stay.
A throwback from times past where talent didn’t come from a box or
magazine page. She sings but not as a vocalist. Artist is her being not
her vocation. Outside of the recording, there is her touch on our podcasts,
websites and the administration of an indie label. Due for a
releases soon, Tomaca represents a coming back to the
true vibe of actual music.
Tomaca’s music will be
available on Keep the Light Records.
