THE MISSION OF THE MUSIC
by Tomaca

This is a new time, a new era.  It's a time where all independent artists can make themselves heard through the vastness of the internet super highway.  It's another vehicle for sound to travel - another way to get messages heard. Though still not the major music industry, for those that really work smart and hard with their marketing, it creates viable opportunities because people are listening.

What do you have to say?  Is your message from your heart, or does it shout that you are seeking fame and fortune? Do you follow the formula laid out by the pre-established music industry? Or, do you surge with the emotion of your own independence and create your own drumbeat to follow?

Real artists live, breathe and sleep their music.  It is what they are, not just what they do.  They walk around with little recorders just in case a tune comes through.  They sleep with a recording console or pad and pen close by just in case inspiration wakes them up while they're sleeping. They take walks around the town reservoir to listen to the birds sing and make musical mental notes for the next project.  They hear an entire orchestrated piece within the repetitive sound of a copier or car engine.  Interesting people those artists are.

True artists create their music with a sense of passion and love.  That is what is put into the music and spread to the souls of everyone who listens to it.  It's like a mom's home cooked meal.  There is the moving energy of love in every turning of the pot, pouring of the flour, cutting of the carrots, or whatever steps are taken to prepare the food.  When it is eaten, that love energy enters the body and you feel full, satisfied and comforted.

As artists, the mission is the same as a loving mom's home cooked meal.  The listeners need to feel your passion and your love in the music.  They need the experience of feeling full and satisfied after listening.  Because though we can't quite put our finger on it, listening to wonderful music of any kind, just like any art, brings the "experiencer" to a different level - a deeper level.  It lets us know that there is far more beauty and meaning to life than we could ever comprehend.
